door ajar warning light.
I have a kia picanto. When I went out to hoover it this morning. I opened the door and the alarm went off to tell me there was a door not shut properly. The key was not in the ingnition and the light on the dashboard showing an open car door was lit up. Does anyone think there is a short somewhere.

I had the problem driving a company car that i wasn't familiar with. the door open light stayed on constantly even though all doors where closed and turned out to be the glass on the rear window. even though it looks closed it was hanging down on hinges but not actually locked. does the Kia perhaps do the same? I don't even know why manufacturers have this feature now. As i said it is a total guess.
a wee bit more research shows that your car has this thing i was on about. Apparently it's known as a load area cover in the car industry, used for putting small itmes on the back shelf without actually having to open the whole boot. I still don't get it honestly. Anyway it sounds very like the problem i had. Just make sure it is shut properly.
BreenM. I know the kia boot looks like it opens in two halves but actually it doesn't. Thanks for the advice anyway. I went onto a kia forum and someone suggested the fog lamp switch was on. I wasn't sure what this had to do with the fact it was the open door sign showing on the dash. Anyway went and had a look (didn't even know I had a rear fog lamp) and found the switch which was infact pushed in. Must have done it when I polished yesterday. And lo and behold it fixed it. Still don't know what the connection was.
