why, because the detergents help keep the tar down and also aid the ignition at the top of the cylinder head, thereby minimising the risk of knocking..... with the price of petrol at around 43p net of excise duty and tax, then this represents some 3 to 4p a litre on UK fuel......

The clear winner is not Tesco around here. They are consistently higher priced than Asda. The thing is, I am not driving miles for a fraction of a penny off; so of the local garages, I know what each are asking and which is cheapest.
And to those who think they are offering a different better type of offer, they can shove their card/money off elsewhere if you return tokens/receipts type thing, into a dark drawer somewhere.

I do most of my food and household shopping at Tesco, it's as good as any other and I make a fair bit of money back each year in Clubcard points as I pay for everything I possibly can on my Tesco credit card (paid off in full each month so free to me) and of course the discount on the diesel.
I buy my meat from my local butchers and veg from the local greengrocer.

I understand what you mean, DT. Besides good lube condition there are other factors, tyre pressure and weight inside the car being some.
The Americans seem to be tightening up on car manufacturer's exaggerated MPG claims now.
