Bell Warning Sound?

I have a Peugeot 206LX Automatic with a 53 Plate. Very ocassionally when turning the ignition key a bell sounds. This has nothing to do with my seat belt being on or off - I have looked through the handbook and no reference is made to this situtation
Can anyone offer a logical reason why this happens?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated

I've known cars that have a bell like chime to remind the driver that the key's in the ignition. It's not intermittent though, maybe yours has a fault.

If it's only when it's particularly cold, is it drawing your attention to a "frost warning" symbol on the dash panel?
My car chimes at low temps and a snowflake icon flashes in the warning-
lights cluster.

Is the gear lever in "Park"? My Granada wouldn't let me take the key out if it wasn't. My Toyota used to "ding" instead.

I wouldn't be surprised if your battery is on the way out ( is it the original battery in your car ? ), or it could be your outside temp sensor warning you the outside temp is 2 degrees or less.
