On The Point Of Insurance & Claims!

There are many story's regards Car Insurance Claims, Drivers loosing their NCB due to no fault of their own by devious other drivers, do you not think the time has come for all cars / Vans, HGV's /Buses to be fitted, you have seen the camera in use by Motorcyclist / Bikes etc, should cameras be fitted by law?

Kind of. It's not a bad idea.

The problem, imo, is when you're driving on unknown routes, especially in the dark, you tend to concentrate on the road and not on the speed, you could easily creep over the limit without realising.

Ummmm, I have a device fitted in my car " Speed Camera Sensor" Cost £35.00 well worth the money, in our area of Blackburn, there are Speed cameras all over the place, it's so easy to go over 30mph, I think it will help the drivers with devious claims, I have two fitted, Front / Rear, there was a problem around this area by Devious persons??????.

Save yourself problems by fitting you own now. We have a Motability car and they say that all Motability cars will be fitted with trackers by the end of the year. Not sure if there will be cameras but the trackers record everything and monitor your driving, speed and position 24/7.

"Fitting your own" can be quite intrusive - incorporation within the car's original "architecture" would be infinitely preferable.

The only problem I can see with that Eddie, some Insurance may ask, 2 Was it fitted by a "VAT Reg Auto Elec" anyway to try & get out of a claim, my Insurance did ask this question, & it was.

Up to a point I would agree on cameras to be fitted to vehicles. I've gotta say that because I already have cameras forward facing and rearward facing!

Problems start if you make it a legal requirement on the specifications to be used for the cameras. Court quality cameras would obviously be a requirement, but most add-on cameras would fail miserably in that case.

Many buses in the UK have cameras fitted inside and out just to mitigate false insurance claims. You would be quite surprised how many buses video files have been accessed by the police.

Slack, my 2 Devices have as a lot, a Card, the Quality of the recording / Pictures are very clear & would stand in court if a claim was Questioned, regards the Buses, I have seen a few, & they have worked in the Drivers Defence.

i fitted a dash cam after a car put me in a ditch, (its packed up now) the main thing i noticed was that when the memory card became full it took quite a while to start recording again, sometimes 30 - 40 seconds.this time delay could be crucial

I have a dashcam that records front and rear and you can't tell it's in the car. Record quality is excellent.

EDDIE, Motobility is only fitting tracking devices to a few of their vehicles and you would be notified if they have done so. I think think they are just using them on certain vehicles that are exhibiting unusual behaviours, very high mileage users for example, to check that the disabled user is the one using the vehicle or it is being used solely for the benefit of that person. We are collecting ours in the next few weeks and no tracker is being fitted to ours.

Good idea and I have a camera in my car and I have a cam for pushbike/motor bike. Not sure about making it law though, the problem is that to make this work by law as such, you'd have a minefield of stuff to navigate. What camera? is there a mimimum standard? should it be on at all times? Penalty for camera no working? How long must we keep the data? How would the technophobes deal with it? I know a guy who still uses a VCR!

TTT has a valid point about it being a minefield to make it a legal necessity. I have a camera in my car for MY protection. If you run into me I can prove it was your fault. If I run into you it's down to you to prove it if I turn awkward.

Ratter, all new Motability cars issued now have trackers fitted as standard. We are due a change of car in September it will have a tracker. It was on the news magazine we get that all Motability cars are now issued with trackers as standard. They monitor speed , braking, use of gears. as well as location.
