The above is not fitted with power steering,so I would like to 'pump up' the front tyres ( 185/70 R13 ). Have asked some local garages about the safe maximum pressure to use,but have got no satisfactory answers......would be grateful for any info.
Try asking at a tyre fitting place if I were you. Although it will tell you in the car's hand book ( if you still have it ) also a Haynes workshop manual will also tell you. Might also be a sticker on one of the door pillars with the recommended tyre pressures on.
I wouldn't pump them up beyond the recommended maximum pressure, you may get slightly easier steering but would be at fault if you were involved in a serious accident which resulted in your car being examined.
Read the small print on the tyre wall, it will tell you the maximum load and pressure. On a road car tyre maximum pressure is usually around 3 bar, but as I say, check the small print first.
