Hi, I've been driving 40 years, always in a manual, which I prefer, I have only driven an automatic many years ago, for a short while, I am picking up my new vehicle next week which is an automatic (to good a deal to ignore) but I am feeling a bit apprehensive about driving an auto, and I'm sure although, I will soon get use to it, I wondered if there are any tips that could help a beginner.

Missed aII the fun but just want to say when I occasionaIIy drive an auto I don't find my Ieft foot the probIem but I often find I am waving my Ieft arm around trying to disguise the fact that I was inadvertentIy trying to change gear with it! I had an auto once, an Austin 1300 I think, and it nearIy kiIIed me at a T junction with a main road when I was Iooking Ieft and didn't reaIise it was creeping forward into the path of traffic coming from my right. Modern ones I drive are much easier I find but I stiII feeI more in controI in a manuaI.
It wouldn't creep forward if you had the handbrake on.
I am rather stupid but I drove my fathers after he died, he had the peddles the wrong way round (I think) due to only having one leg. I managed fine after a vey short while. If I could drive it anybody could!
