Ford C-Max

Why does my C-Max's wiper system sometimes stop altogether for a while when it is set to slow speed? It's strange also in that it will often stop when I pull up to lights on red. Does it have mind of its own, or does some circuitry need replacing?
Any useful comments would be much appreciated.

It's meant to do that. As less rain is falling the wipers don't need to work as fast but it is annoying when on intermittent it stops and you can't see. BMWs are the same.

My Volvo (Owned by Ford at the time it was built) behaves in a similar manner. We have automatic wipers but when travelling very slowly or stationary we notice the wipe rate falls.

As per previous comments that is the rain sensing mode. On my C-Max there is a dial on the stick where I can adjust the sensitivity of the sensor.
