Have you notices that people who own dark coloured cars don't seem to put their side/head lights on when driving in poor light.  It was really murky, dull and dark this morning and the vast majority of cars with no lights were dark coloured anyway, i.e. navy, black, dark green, dark red.........   why is this?

Bone-idle and Laziness!!! I think these drivers think they can be seen because they can see other cars which have their lights on. However, I think all cars should have 'automatic lights on' feature like the one you get on the latest Mondeo.

Tip to all those you are rightly complaining about - and who are unlikely to use a forum like this to improve their knowledge/skill/safety.

Try to be the first to use lights in adverse or poor light conditions.

I'm concerned that you should suggest that anyone should use sidelights in poor light. Sidelights should only be used when stationary. If the light/visibility is poor enough to require lights, then dipped headlights should always be used.

To be honest I wouldn't care if they used candles!  Just so long as they had their cars illuminated in some way.

I don't think anyone here is suggesting using sidelights. However, I do agree with you that sidelights should only be used when stationary. There are far too many drivers driving at night with sidelights on. Even where there are no street lights!! Even worse with no lights on. I always wonder if they ever look at their dashboard to check the speed. If they did they would realise they can't see anything because they have no lights on.

Quite right, it is illegal to drive on side lights only.  Poor visibility, get your heads on.  See and be seen.
