bmw 318i baur 1984 cpnvertable

i am thinking of purchasing the above car - as i know nothing about cars i was wondering what i should look for - at what point should important maintenance have been carried out ie cambelts etc... also are there any known faults on this particular model>?

Wouldnt touch a baur with a bargepole. Or an E30 that early ether. The E30 model had 2 chassis the early one witch would be the baur up to about 1988 I think and the later ones from 1988 the best way to tell is if its got metalic bumpers steer clear.The early ones had crap engine that you WILL have problems with. If your gonna go for and low powered E30 get a 318is if you can find one its a 1.8 with a 16valve head, recaro seats, lsd and uprated suspention and will keep up with a 325i easy. trust me ive had 5 and the 318is is the daddy ad the 325 isnt much quicker and drinks petrol.
