Can I Drive A Car With Mot On Somebody Else's Name On?
My husband bought a second hand car and garage told him there is 6 months road tax on it but hubby shouldnt change V5C registration certificate for 6 months. Hubby gave money to garage for the existing r.tax.
I dont think it is right, i feel we have to register new keeper details as soon as? I feel we have to tax it to our name immediately too. What do you advise, thanks in advance.

You cannot transfer road tax, keeping the V5C in the sellers name will in effect mean the car shows as taxed but it is fraud. He should get the 6 months tax back off the seller and send off the V5C to put the car in his name. He can use the V5C/2 green slip to tax it correctly here: https:/ /www.go v.uk/ve hicle-t ax. The seller will then get a refund of un paid tax that's what is supposed to happen.
Not transferring the registration to his own name is not only illegal but it can cause problems. If, say, he commits a speeding offence the paperwork will go to the person named on the registration document. They will have to name your husband as the driver. That will cause delay and he may not get the details in time to be offered a speed awareness course or fixed penalty (if appropriate).
The dealer ought to know better than to suggest he does this. It may be worth a chat with the Trading Standards people to let them know what they are doing.
