Getting into my car today I noticed the rubber bit at the bottom of the window has some strange circle cut outs on it. They are pretty small but there are about three each on the driver side and passenger side front windows, nothing on the back windows. Is the rubber getting old and breaking in a weird way, or did someone try to break into my car, or has something else happened?

Probably birds pecking at it.

Would birds make that shape?
It looks like the end of a device used to try unlock doors.
Could be a device known as a winkler. Depending where your car was parked at the time it could of been used unlawfully ,maybe, or lawfully unlikely.

Sounds dodgy, I've only been parked at work and home, unless it happened another day and I just didn't notice. Don't know why anyone would want to nick it anyway, it's ten years old and certainly nothing special. Don't like the idea of bad 'uns lurking about my area. :(
Good grief. That link is a car thief’s bible. I wasn’t going to describe what a winkler is and how used.
Slightly different to a slim jim which is semi rigid plastic. Our winklers were made from motorcycle spokes.
None of it's news is it ?
Surely cars don't use that form of locking mechanism any more.
