Car Stuck Due To Heat

In my 56 years of car ownership I've never had my car key unable to turn on the ignition due to the heat admittedly it had been in the sun all day ( can't park it anywhere else)I knew it couldnt be anything more even in1976 I didn't experienced this.so a day without my car. It was ok the next morning.now I've started on very hot days to put baking foil over the ignition / steering lock.
Anyone else had this ?

Well I'm sorry but if your mechanical and technical minded, by covering the ignition/ lock with baking foil, and you think its the heat of the day causing the problem, foil is only going to make it hotter, is it not? I will have a nice week.

Maybe the locks are made of recycled rail tracks
Maybe this kind of thing happens all the time in Saudi Arabia and Australia but we just haven't heard
Maybe it was just one of those things unrelated to temperature
Maybe you've figured it out for yourself but are embarrassed to say

Ping a wee touch of Three In One oil in and move on.

You might be barking up the wrong tree foil-wise derek, imagine the car like an oven and you've wrapped something inside it like a joint of meat.
Meat seldom cools down in a hot oven regardless of the magical properties of thin metal sheets, likewise locks, according to keyologists.

Foil will reflect radiated heat from the sun. However if the lock barrel is heated by conducted and convected heat inside the car, it will have no effect.
