Just taxed car on line. The last part of the form said you have a months trial for 50p for up to five cars to check on MOT/tAX STATUS. tHEN £5.99 MONTHLY.

Could not see any box to continue with payment and not get charged for this.

Will check tomorrow.

Everyone on this site is using some sort of technology and will have access to a calendar. Mine is set to remind me of the MOT one month and one week in advance. Only took a second to set up and the reminder pops up on all my devices

How about this for an idea: Ge a bit of paper and pen or pencil. Write on the paper the expiry date of your MoT and tax. Get some sticky backed plastic and stick the paper (writing side up) somewhere in the car where you will see it when you get into it (but not in your line of sight). Hey presto! A foolproof reminder system that relies on no technology and gives you a reminder every time you get into the car. Note this method is not suitable for cars that are driven infrequently! :-)

I have dyno taped both MOT and RFL renewal dates on the interior driver's sun visor. I may forget the month but never where I can find the reminder.

What a fool am I ????

It WAS a scam. The 50p taken today was a tester before the account was raided. Cancelled debit card with bank, account frozen. Just tried to use it at local shop, transaction declined.

Bad experience, at 74 years old I should known better.

These scammers are very clever, get four stars and the first one shown in google when typing in the Gov webname.

Feel very ashamed, but nothing lost, just 50 pence.

Did you get any contact from your bank before the card was declined?

They may have thought it had been used fraudulently and had suspended it pending confirmation from you.

I rang the bank to cancel the card. All seems OK, waiting for replacement card.

You’re not a fool sparkly, most of us have fallen victim at one time or another, k ordered a ‘ pen’ as they called it, it had magic powers to gather all your photos on all devices, place them in folders for you to name, simple?
I paid around $50 for this all singing all dancing ‘pen’ , I then got z card from the GPO saying there was a package but I’d have to pay £21-60 customs duty before I got it, I did this and when it came, it was no more than a 64gb USB !!!! Lesson learnt , there’s some evil *** out there in Lala land

I wasn’t, I was fully alert so you see we can all get caught out, they normally trace most scams to the Seychelles of all places

I’ve also been caught out. Husband used to go to London quite regularly, so I’d pay the Congestion Charge online. I accidentally found a non-official site and ended up paying a few pounds more than I should have.

The place I get mine serviced and mot’d reminds me. I pay for my service monthly ahead of time and I get a free MOT and minor stuff done free, parts only.
