Most Reliable M-Series Engine

I am considering getting an M series either 3, 5 or 6. Which one has the least amount of problems reported.. it i guess the year range would be the e90/92 year for m3 or same kind of year range for the other 2. So far i am edging towards m3 even though i really wanted the e46 the e90/92 has more power.

Depends on mileage and service history.

I think it probably best assuming they have equal mileage and service history. Just because that is more comparing the treatment of the car than the build of the engine. Where as i am more thinking in terms of maintenance costs

the E39 V8 is the best. Maybe less power than the later ones but that's not the only point.
