my astra 98 cdx auto is running rough at tickover but still drives very well no coughs or splutter still plenty underfoot it was all going well till i went through the car wash the other day ????? dont know if it could be related to the problems strange but tue

Might be damp in the ignition, clean under the plug covers and give all the leads and distributor a good spray with WD40.

If the engine is a 2 Litre type as fitted to the vectra, then it could well be the Ecotec value. They have a tendency to get 'coked up' and can be cured by buying a valve gasket from Vauxhall (Less than �1)! and a tin of carb cleaner. DONT be suckered into buying a complete new valve, they are around �115 - 120 plus vat!

had a friend with a vectra with similar- first time vauxhall charged 300+ but is a valve unit that can be cleaned out as kris said. i did it for him after about once a year.
