How much was it?
do you have an amusing anecdote?
I had a Ford Anglia 1200 cost £30. The battery was knackered so it often would not start but It would start so easily I could bump start it on my own!

Austin A40, I bought a write-off. Had the chasis straightened and several "new" parts from the scrap merchants, including a boot lid. It eventually had 3 replacement boot lids before I sold it as scrap, they always rusted out under the "Austin" chrome flash. Lovely little 2-door car with quarter light windows - an absolute must for smokers! Very economical...

Bond three-wheeler(1958). No reverse. Had to be turned round manually .Don't remember how much it cost but it wouldn't have been much . A weeks wage back then was about £12. We went to local agricultural show where he was trying to follow the policeman's directions into the car park. Ran over the policeman's foot. The air was blue!.
my fourth car was a Polo. It was the worst car ever made - something went wrong every month. Sometimes it was mechanical stuff - three new alternators it needed, or the wipers not working. Some of it was bizarre, like the glove box falling on the floor, the windows jamming open when it rained so the floor rusted, or the car losing power because a wire had worked loose and gave you a shock when you touched the door handle.
Jesus H Frog, what a nightmare. I got so scared of getting into it I had to sell it for scrap.

My first car was a Hillman Imp, and I won it in a competition. I already had a licence (passed my test in the Army), but no car. We had been married about 4 years, and all our money went into our new home and garden. We had no idea how much it would cost to run a car, so we cautiously decided to keep the car for a year, and see how it all worked out. We kept that particular car for 10 years, and we haven't been without a car since then.

Lovely little 2-door car with quarter light windows - an absolute must for smokers! Very economical to drive. For £110 I paid for the car, spares, repairs, re-spray, MOT, Road Tax and Insurance - 3rd party fire and theft and a set of remould tyres.
I decided one day to treat the car to a drive-in car wash. The seals around the windows were coiled wires covered in fabric. The water soon started to permeate through the fabric and suddenly the soap started to billow inside the car reminiscent of a Quatermas episode.
My boyfriend and I had to move rapidly towards each other to try and avoid the worst of the drenching. We both ended up soaked on opposite sides to each other. The car ariel was broken during that wash, never been in one since, but it was one of the best laughs I ever had.
One day it developed a leak under the dashboard and the rain collected in the parcel shelf which ran the width of the car. When turning a corner the water would pour out over my feet.
Still loved it though and the next 2 cars I had were the same model.

1982, bought a '72 or '74 Vauxhall Viva 4 door saloon for just £50 and spent a few quid on new brake shoes and a fan belt. Scrapped it at a garage on the motorway when big ends went on my way to Birmingham Motor Show and cashed in two months of tax.
18 months later, answered a knock on my door to two plods who informed me my car had been involved in a hit and run incident somewhere in Kent. They took a little persuading that i had, indeed, scrapped the car 18 months previously.
