Mots were introduced in 1960 to get many of the old bangers off the road (I know as I owned a few in my time!).
Why are 3 year old cars subjected to these tests. Modern cars have improved dramatically and outlast those produced in the 50's. I would be interested to know the failure rates for "young" cars - anyone know?
Or is this just another way for the Government to make money?
Republic of Ireland it's 4 years to first test and then 2 more to next, then yearly from age 7.
Testing is in Government Centres (not privately owned garages) and concentrates on real safety issues and a simple emission check, rather than the bloated nonsense that the GB test has become.
I dont come across to many drivers that have blown bulbs, and I do a lot of driving. That could be because its a good excuse for the police to pull you over.
