What's going on? Why is my 13 year old diesel banger worth more than twice as much as it was three years ago? Still not worth a fortune but it is puzzling. Tis nowt special - a Hyundai i30 automatic.

No Hobkirk, they are far too expensive for me and most other people and I wouldn't trust a second hand one. Petrol and diesel are still the way to go.

There has to be a gap in the market for smaller dealerships buying up spares etc to keep older fossil fuel cars going and extending their useful life. After all it is much cheaper to keep your old banger on the road than it is to fork out for new modern electric jobs that devalue , going down faster than an Olympic diver. My 1989 vw t3 has been kept going at some cost , E.g. new engine upgraded brakes etc. the old engine did 200k miles plus without any real issues. The cost are not minor but still less than buying the latest zoom boing electric vw that will only do 200 miles before recharge

And anyway, the old vw is now a “classic” , another way of saying “a money pit” I won’t part with it , unless I get arrested for driving a planet destroying vehicle, which could be a thing sooner than you think. Life in the 21st century!! What’s not to like??

How far can you drive before needing to find a charging point? If you can that is, and if it’s working?

I don't deny there are big problems coming with an inadequate charging network. However I am in the lucky position that I do almost all my charging at home.
I still drive petrol cars as well (and diesel lorries), and believe me the electric car driving experience is far superior.

Market forces. Manufacturers couldn't produce new cars because of lack of new 'chips' so buyers turned to the 2nd-hand cars - which drove up the prices.

So, at least says Mr.J2 who is an oracle on all things car related!

Good luck with webuy anycar.com barry. I checked with them a fortnight ago and they won't leave me alone. New offer on the car twice a day. Managed to stop it now but IF I sell it, it sure as hell won't be to them.

No, that is subjective and dependant on what cars you are comparing.

For instance (extreme example) driving a leaf is not superior to driving a Lamborghini.
