Pubs tend to get just a little bit busy on Christmas Eve, Jarg!
(I should know - I've worked the Chistmas shifts in quite a few of them!).

Anyway, Alf G's pub (as depicted on the telly) isn't there anymore, as it closed down in 2017:

Yes I know Chris. You don't mind if I call you Chris do you as everybody else on here does.

I always though Alfs pub was the Boyelen pub near West hams ground as he lived there.

I think 🤔

Question Author

Sorry West hams old ground of course on green street

I'm going by this:

I think that Christmas Eve is the the one night of the year that I really wouldn't want to be a customer in a pub.  It's always far too crowded and noisy!  (I've quite enjoyed working the shift though).

Question Author

Yes that was in sickness in health but in till death us do part he lived in West ham I think.

Anyway I'm in a pub in Harlow at the moment and it's very pleasant here but give it time 😁

Good grief!  Jarg has found somewhere in Harlow that can actually be described as 'very pleasant'.  I didn't think that was possible!

😄

Question Author

Lol Chris it's the wetherspoons in Harlow and believe it or not it is quite nice here

Question Author

Although the one in Bishops Stortford about 10 mile away is much pleasanter by the river

You chosen venue isn't to everyone's taste, Jarg:

It's quite some time since I was in Harlow but I do recall that there are some decent pubs in Old Harlow, such as the Queen's Head.

Have been to yhe pub. Now back, half sloshed. Well it doesn't take many beers at my age.

Alf Garnet lived in Wapping and supported West Ham.  Not an Eastender then, Jarg?

That was quite a few years ago and it's reputation has changed a lot.

Yes the carpets used to be sticky and stink of pee but it's a lot better now.
