I have just noticed my MOT expired on Monday.I have a test arranged for next Friday.Do they give you two weeks grace nowadays?I thought you used to get a e-mail telling you when it is about to expire?I never got nothing?Can i still drive my car till Friday?

There is no such thing as a grace period. What is often confused as a "grace period" is the time that enforcement takes.

I checked online. You can still drive the car but only to a pre-booked MOT test (and you must be able to provide proof of that if stopped by police on the way).

No you cant - (  Manchester answer) you cannot get more than 200y in M without a camera ecording you ( for the purposes of law and rule by the Great and Good)

ANPR will identify whether you have an MOT ( and are therefore insured) and if you are not you get fined

and yu get a ticket

NOW - on Fri - it is an adqquate excuse to show you are driving TO the  MOT station.

( gone are the days when the DVLA computer changed from static and once-a-year to dynamic ( up to date) and they found 20% entries were inaccurate )

DVLA won't remind you - some garages do if you've used them before. The centre I use sends me a postcard.

Thats the problem bednobs,i used to get them.Its the same car ive had for 7 years now.

I just pop everything like that on my online calendar, get pop up reminders in advance. Takes seconds to pop up.

I have never had reminders from anywhere else

No, no, noooo, Peter.

Lack of MoT does not and cannot invalidate Third Party insurance required by law.

As well as that, insurers would in fact be hard pushed to repudiate cover for damage to the policyholder's own vehicle under a comprehensive policy. To do so they would have to show a link between the lack of MoT and any incident which caused the damage they were being asked to cover.

Or....(and hold your breath for his one):  get a piece of paper (about the size of a playing card will do) and a pencil. Write on the piece of paper:

Insurance Expires on dd/mm/yyyy

MoT Expires on dd/mm/yyyy

Tax expires on dd/mm/yyyy

Then, get some Sellotape (other sticky backed plastic is available and will do) and fix the piece of paper to a place where it can be seen by the driver from inside the car (for example, on the door of the glove-box)

Hey Presto! Every time you get into the car, the expiry dates of those three things (each of which can lead to a fine and in the case of insurance can result in an endorsement and six points) will be visible. Of course you also have to be aware of the current date, but I can't think of everything.  🤣

Im pretty sure the DVLA/GOV.UK used to send out e-mails reminding us about our MOT expiry.But i could be wrong.

You can request MOT reminders using the link the link BEDNOBS quoted but that works only if you haven't changed your e-mail address or 'phone number and forgotten to notify the change.

If you haven't changed your e-mail address, that works as long as you're in the habit of checking your e-mails on a regular basis.

No,i havent changed my e-mail address and yes,i do check my e-mails regularly.I used to get reminders,not this time.

The MOT reminder from the DVLA needs you to sign up for it, it was introduced in 2017.  Prior to that, no reminders.
