i was driving just normaly and the car just cut out,
however the battery light comes on when turning the ignition, but nothing else happens the is no lights and cant use remote lock.when the car came to a stop i checked under the bonnet, there was no smoke or anything to indicate there was a problem,so the car is just dead but the battery does work.
many thanks.

I had a vauxhall nova that used to do this and ended up having the whole ignition system changed. That wasn't before the garage had replaced practically everything else on the car before finally discovering the problem (Never take your car to a vauxhall main dealer for repair).
