would anyone know when the new rules for mot's come into force? i understand that you wont be able to have the 14 days to do any work on the vehicle should it fail, which as far as i can understand means the garage who does the mot will do the work for you, if you take it to your own mechanic or take it home and do the work yourself you will be charged again for the mot when you take it back.

I have just spoken to my son who works in a garage with a mot facility,if the garage is fully computerised in their mot dealings, then what you presume is true.if you take the car away to be fixed, you will be charged for a new test.If you leave it to be repaired, you will not be charged for the retest

which probably means youll be ripped off anyway.

I left my car at the garage for repair ( as I always do) and was charged again for the new MOT . It is the new rule allegedly. I thought it was a bit rich though!
What will happen in my case? I take my car to a garage which only does MOTs. Any work has to be done elsewhere.
Who thinks these things up?
