Chipped or modified in some way ? What was wrong with it to start with ?
You can get decoders from some stores - I had one for a Calibra cost about 10. It can help in telling you what the fault code is. Other than that it's a Vauxhall dealer and they can hook it up to a TECH1 to read the ECU fault code in more detail. I don't think there is a self diagnostic mode on the Vauxhalls - my Volvo has a way of doing this and the Haynes manual has a list of fault codes.
Perhaps there's a forum or two on the Net that could help ?
Well done for not parting with your cash to Vauxhall !
I'd trust a Lucas agent if they told me my ECU had checked out OK. So other than ensuring all connections are OK - no bent pins etc., which I am sure you have done, I'd go back to the Lucas agent for advice.
I can't think of anything else. Hopefully someone will come up with something else on here.
