Why do sometimes get a static discharge from my car? and what can I do to reduce or eliminate it?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Because your car runs on rubber tyres it can't earth any static electric build up until you come along and act as a conductor, for some strange reason it does not effect every one but I get it all the time even in the house!
I think you can still purchase conductors in Halfords etc which fix to the car and is contact with the ground and conducts the static away...... You may of seen them fixed to the rear of cars, they look like a long thin black plastic strip with a white lightning flash on them, apparently also effective if you or fellow passengers suffer from travel sickness.
