i have found that its the labour at merc that will cost a fortune, the parts i think are very reasonable.

i have a merc sprinter, the parts come from merc,the labour comes from our local mobile mechanic?

Only very old cars have tappets, the noise you can hear is coming from the cam followers, which are a lot more expensive to have adjusted.
