What make of car are you thinking of buying?

i used an agent to buy a merc sprinter a few years back,i paid a deposit to this company and i was going to save 4,000. however, they kept on telling me there was a problem in belgium or my van was in calais.

this went on for about 2-3 months, initialy there was a 6 week waiting time!!

it never turned up, this company gave me my deposit back but the experience left a nasty taste in my mouth!!

Things have changed in the last few years - it iss rarely worth the trouble that you will go through and save very little now

Am looking for a Saab Impret-Sir. Probably a 93.

I had heard good things about reductions in cost and a brief look at one site listed up to 8/9k savings. Do you really think this isn't the case, tubeway?

as said previously. A friend of mine bought a BMW 7 series thinking he'd save around 10k... but after everything was worked out he saved so little money it wasn't worth the massive hassle.
Saabs are best sourced direct from where the 9-3 cabriolets are made, Finland. Also, try contacting Douglas Verbanck, sales manager at Hancke MAZDA &SAAB in Belgium. They have been importing Saabs for over 20 years. email is [email protected] or www.go.to.mazda. Also a company in Scotland called Macgregor & Macandrew specialise in importing Saabs. email [email protected] or phone 01463 224090. All this info is a couple of years old, but hopefully it is still current!
You wont get the same specification as UK models. I bought one and you get laughed at when something goes wrong by the local (main) dealers. Even when in collecting the car from a service they tell you it's not ready and you have to wait and wait and wait as they pretend it's not. When you go to sell it every dealer knows it's an import. I would never buy abroad again.

I really do not think that you will save 8-9k over the price that you can negotiate with a UK dealer. I have no axe to grind here as I left the motor trade about 2 years ago. I would be interested to know how much you really can save - but if you think 8k you are dreaming.
