Now please don't shout me down in flames for being a grass but I want to report a lady who drives like a mad woman. She always has a mobile clamped to her ear, 3 children in the back and last week nearly did not see a lollipop lady in the middle of the road crossing over children coming out of school as she was that busy talking on the phone. She seems to think the pavement is there for her to park her car while she drops off her son at the childminders (she drives a Range Rover so a big car) leaving everyone to have to walk in the road to get by.

Do I contact the police or would it be someone else.

I would be more than happy to approach her myself as I am not a coward but her house is only accessable (sp) down a very long driveway with security gates and I can't see myself getting past them.

Thanks for any comments and I am honestly not some boring old do gooder but a worried Mum who has to cross her children over that road that she uses with such lack of consideration.

Hi,

Your not a grass, Report her to the police with times she is around before she kills someone, perhaps someone at the school could do something.

Try Crime Stoppers, 0800 555 111, and no,your not a grass, why should she be able to behave like this, she putting other people at risk as well as her own kids.

Firstly I'd report her to the police simply for using her mobile phone at the wheel as it shows lack of consideration for other road users and pedestrians. Maybe even ask the police to follow her to witness even more dangerous driving.

And I wouldn't at all say you're being a grass, simply because you're doing the right thing.

Pity you can't get someone to walk right over car when she parks on the pavement. Why should people be put in danger walking in the road to get around her car. Take some pictures including the number and take them to the Police. If you report it and they don't take any action there would be serious trouble if there was an accident.

I absolutely agree with you WP.

I cycle everywhere, the number of people driving using handheld mobiles, or cradled in the crook of the neck, is disgraceful. I was nearly killed one morning by a woman on the school run, kids running amok in the back, mobile to the ear. For this alone you should alert the police.

They'll have to see her to nick her unfortunately.

Why not take photographs of her - using her phone driving and inconsiderately parking. Consider writing an article for your local paper including the photos and let her have copies of the best ones. Chances are she'll reconsider her behaviour.
In recent years the police have convinced everyone, including themselves, that they do not have time for things like this. They have a duty to investigate your complaint, and they do not need to see the incident themselves. They will need a statement which they will write from what you tell them, then if the case goes to court, you will be called as a witness unless the driver pleads not guilty. It is best to report what happened on one occasion rather than saying that she always drives badly. Make a written note of the vehicle number at the time and this will help to prove that you have got the number correct. It will also help if you can get the names or vehicle numbers of other witnesses.
