Hi there.. non experienced learner driver here... no mechanical knowledge so excuse my ignorance.


The past few times my uncle has taken me out for a lesson (he's nearly a full ADI instructor) I keep finding that either from the start, or halfway through the lesson, my Daewoo S reg starts loosing power.. I change down and it only makes things a bit better.. can't seem to accelate as normal. Makes me out to look really daft on the road (luckily I have my Ls on of course); one posibility is the oil might need changing. It's only an 800cc engine anyway, but it definately hasn't always been like this. It's done about 47k and I got it when it had done 45k. Any ideas please as I need to book and take my test in this car, and the tax and insurance need renewing soon too :-(

does it have a kangaroo effect?

Getting rid is not an option right now since funds are extremely limited! It's been a great first car so far, and I'm still on a learner license. I need to locate the carburettor in the meantime.... no, car doesn't seem to jump... just note that the engine power drops off and have to put my foot to the floor to get it to go at any reasonable speed :-(
Get a good mobile tune up from someone like Home Tune who will hook the engine up to an electronic analyser and check everything, fuel, plugs, electrics, exhaust etc. Cost about �30 -35 and well worth it.
Listen to derekpara. There is unlikely to be a carburettor on an S reg car, everything now is fuel injected with little electronic boxes to manage the engine to keep emissions down and economy good. These electronic boxes sometimes get grotty with age/water/dirt etc, and upset the tuning. There could be a fuel blockage somewhere. 47k is not high miles on a modern car, and an oilchange is unlikely to be the solution, but do service the car regularly, it is a chore and an expense but will give improved reliability. You can do a lot yourself with a Haynes manual and some simple tools.

There is one on a matiz though.


Was only kidding Tech, I have to drive them at work sometimes and I hate them. There always seems to be something wrong with them but maybe thats because they don't like being driven hard.


Im no mechanic so it probably has nothing to do with the carb
