Hi, does anyone know where I can obtain an interntaional driving permit. I have a full Australian drivers licence but have been told that it's highly recommended to take an International Driving Permit with me to Spain as a few of the car hire companies over there can be a little funny.

I know the AA used to do them - free to members. Mind you that was many years ago when they had shops and a counter service !

According to their website they still issue both types ;

However, if you have the new UK photocard licence you should have no need for one in Spain. I can understand possible problems with a UK paper licence but at the end of the day we're all in the EU.

Some other useful information here, including a country list where an IDP is required ;

Thanks BillyNoMates. I don't have a UK licence only an Australian one.

I phoned the hire company I am using and they told me to get one to be on the safe side.

You can get one from the Post Office (if you go to a main one).
I never had any problem hiring a car in Spain with just old paper license, as long as you take your passport too, you should be fine.
International passes from the PO are around 4 for a year I think, so you may as well for peace of mind
