Wing mirrors

I just bought some new wing mirrors for my 98 Fiesta, not direct replacements but a different style. I'm having trouble getting my old wing mirrors off. I've undone 3 screws but they still wont come off.

Also, the new wing mirrors have a tiny hole in the base plate where as the originals are held in place by all kinds of metal and springs with a much larger hole. Surely these new mirrors wont go on and still work will they?

Anyone lend any kinda of advice. I know this is all a bit sketchy. Thanks
