DVLA medical rules
in april 2006 i notified the DVLA of a heart condition i had (i am required by law to inform them as i am a hgv driver).
in may i had an operation and i have been cured. my consultant has written to them informing them of this.
problem is my employer wont let me drive a lorry until i hear from DVLA re my licence.
this has gone on since april and i want to get back to work is anyone else in same position?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.DVLA will probably have a set period after your procedure during which time your license will be suspended. I think it's something along the lines of 3 months after an angioplasty but go to the DVLA website for accurate information. After that time, as long as your consultant and your GP are satisfied, then you will be able to return to work.

cheers ianess procedure i had was ablation i havent had my licence suspended i was informed by my consultant DVLA would not allow me to drive a car for 7 days and a HGV for six weeks (6 weeks was up on 7th june!)
i have phoned the DVLA and all they can tell me is that they are still processing it.and in the meantime i can drive a hgv problem is works doctor wont accept this unless in writing.

Crazy situation baz......been there myself.
Can your employer not start you back on "light" ie non-driving duties as it appears as if you're in the middle of a catch-22 situation because your works doctor doesn't know the rules and you're obviously losing money because of it.
Point him in the direction of the DVLA website and let him know in no uncertain terms that the period of suspension is long gone. He should also be aware of the regs that allow you to work until DVLA says otherwise.
Do you have a trade union where you work? If so then they should be kicking up hell on your behalf.
