I dont know where you heard that but I would be very surprised if it was true, insurance premiums are going up all the time, and young drivers with no no-claims bonus get stung most of all. The exact premium will depend on the sort of car you have in mind, so when you decide that try www.confused.com to quickly get a few different quotes. www.bell.com specialise in customers with no NCB. The only other good advice is to try as many companies as you can, and that online quotes are often cheaper than over the phone. Good luck!
I have just insured my 17 year old daughter who has a provisional licence, for a Mini One. The premium was approx 1050 for fully comprehensive.
3rd party you're still looking at about 1000.
I learned to drive when I was 24 (4.5 years ago) in 1.1 Ford Fiesta and I paid 700 3rd party, which was almost as much as I paid for the car. You'll get whacked for huge premiums until you're 25.
Try confused.com - I know the advert is annoying but you are able to just enter your details in just nce and get loads of quotes - you can also find out why some would not quote for you and alter some of the details to see how you can reduce the premium.

One hint thought - do not put your eal phone no on as you will end up getting hassled off loads of companies wanting your business.
Good luck.
hi i am 19 i insured a escort 1.3 j 4 889 fully comp i was learnin just try liverpool victora that is who i was with
You will be paying a fortune for the first couple of years, i was 21 when i passed my test and was (unlucky enough) to have a rover metro, it cost me 620 quid to buy and 600 to insure 3rd part f & t.

Its worth sitting with the yellow pages and ringing up all the 0800 (free phone) insurance companies and getting their quotes first then working your way through the rest.

remember too, that what company is cheapest for your mum/dad/brother/sister/best mate may not be the best for you, they vary dramatically!

Happy Motoring!!
