Citroen Saxo 1.1i - Fuel problems? Help please!!

I have just bought a second hand Saxo.

When driving, occasionally, the engine starts to race and the car starts jerking as if running out of fuel. I have to dip the clutch and rev to try and clear it. Sometimes this works and sometimes it just cures itself.

I'd be grateful for any ideas.

Hi I have a second hand saxo too and mine does the same, especially when its been raining or is damp. They dont like the wet and cold the little sods!!

It's really strange. I went out yesterday when it was chucking it down and it was fine. Then, today when it is a lovely warm sunny day, it has been playing up - definitely little sods!

I do the same as you and rev the ******* till it does what I want, then I get told of by the men cus it doesnt do the car any good, but it does the trick!

Hi, I had a saxo which did the same as what you're describing, basically the engine would rev for no apparant reason and it would jerk terribly (very embarrasing), I took it to a few garages and none of them could diagnose the problem. In the end I had to take it to a Citroen garage and they found it was the 'idling regulator motor' which they replaced at about �180 including labour and that solved the problem. So if this is the same fault, I dont think it is something that will sort itself out. Hope this helps

Just to add to the above, the problem was nothing to do with the fuel, it was a component (i think it's on the engine)that had to be replaced which regulates the idling and the revs.

if you decide to change the idle stepper motor it is really easy only held on by two bolts and very easy to get to. you can get the parts from most motor factors for about �45 pounds and fit it yourself in under five minutes. pull off the electrical plug connectiona dn undo the two bolts then reassemble. you dont need the citroen diagnostic machine to re-set everything either. i should know use to work for citroen.
