ford galaxy
i've seen a used ford galaxy for a very reasonable price. It's about 7-8 yaers old and has done 100,000 miles. Does anyone have one of these and would you say they were a good car for a family? Is there a lot can go wrong after this sort of mileage? It's had a new clutch and some other work done.

I get about 250 ish miles for fifty five quid. Also we have had one in the family since 97. So Mummy is treating herself to a bmw soft top - but I will miss the versatility of the 'bus' .
Tyres have to be reinforced and can cost a bomb check out condition before buying, to avoid unforseen expense. The other thing is to ask/ check for your self if the passenger footwell is wet after a shower of rain this was a problem for me and a couple of school run mums who had R and S plate cars. Not a problem in my later model one tho ( 02 ) but also check that the back window wiper fires water on window not into pass footwell. If there is a break in that pipe it is obvious as no water gets to back window, but the front is fine.
In all honesty we found it to be brill apart from that . If I was buying one again I would only go for a diesel for sure.

They are good solid vehicles and are nice to drive. As sense4all says better with a diesel. I've had a diesel tdi for two years now and can't fault it. I have the 115 bhp engine and it pulls well - I am told the 90 bhp version is a bit sluggish. I run mine with the two rear seats removed making it a five rather than a seven seater but giving loads of load space.Fuel consumtion is good for such a heavy vehicle - 40+ mpg. Problem for me now is I don't know if a can go back to a normal size car because the Galaxy is so versatile. With all the seats removed it's a reasonable sized van !
