I recently got back from hols to find a speeding ticket on the mat. Having checked the dates because I had only recently bought the car, I discovered the ticket was for a date previous to when I bought the it ( about two weeks ). GREAT,I thought and filled in the form best I could, telling them that I didn' t own the car at that time so it wasn't me. I have now recieved a letter informing me that I shall be taken to court because I denied driving the car and didn't name the driver of the car at the time of the offence. Will the case be heard at a local court or where the offence took place (approx 100 miles). If it is not local to me can I claim expenses and if so who from. Also in law by the way.
when you receive the summons to appear in court, send a letter and a photocopy of the v5( which will show you were not the owner of the vehicle at the time of the offence)to the court by recorded post, job done,no problems. but what i find strange, is how they got your name and address if it was not on the dvla file to that car.
Thanks for quick answer. I suspect the ticket had been sent to the previous owner and they have denied it and given my details. The v5 was still going through the system when I recieved the ticket.
