my merc sprinter suddenly stopped the other day after i borrowed it to a mate and he brought it back with no fuel in it, it never actually stopped with no fuel but i think i just got it to the garage in time, anyway..... i was driving down the road and a load of white smoke bellowed out of the exhaust, i have since changed filters,bled it,towed it, changed the "O" seals in the filter housing and it still wont go??

any ideas???????

Did it definately 'not' run out of fuel because (don`t know if this applies to a sprinter) but if you run out of fuel in a vito only a merc garage can reset something or other to get it up and running again

no i didnt run out of diesel, i took it to the garage the following morning and put a tenner in (thats all i had on me) but the light on the fuel gauge never went out, so he must of run it real low!
possible head gasket.

i know think the pump timing has slipped?
A, did you definately put diesel in? B, has the timing chain snapped?

tomtech...... yes its diesel i put in and no the timing chain hasnt snapped but after talking to merc on the phone yesterday the said that its a fault that the pump can jump a tooth,so i will be trying that today, but just incase i bought an engine off ebay yesterday and if i cant get this one done today i am throwing the new lump in!!
