Speeding on Motorway

I was followed tonight by an unmarked police car whilst exceeding the speed limit on the motorway.
He flashed his blue lights behind the grille of the car for a few seconds and when I pulled into the middle lane from the outside lane he simply overtook me and then went to the services.
Do I need to actually be stopped at the time to be prosecuted or can I expect something in the post?

yes iff its a police car the only time when you dont stop is a mobile van or speed cam iff theres a cop with a hand cam you will find he may stop you or there will be another cop down the road will pull you

It sounds likely that they simply needed to get past you. Maybe they were called to an incident at the services.

years ago i was doing 85ish on the motorway and got flashed by a police car, who, as soon as i moved over overtook me and waved to say thank you??

definitly would have pulled u if they wanted to. i wouldnt worry, but if your on motorway at night be aware of cars such as vauxhall omegas, skoda octavias, mondeos etc, anything with a massive aerial on the boot lid/ more than one aerial,etc is 8 out of 10 times old bill , it was probably a call out to the services.

This is a tried and tested way of saying to you "I am on way to a call elsewhere and under normal circumstances I would stop you and relieve your bank of sixty pounds / three points."
Take this as a lucky escape. There are many unmarked traffic cars on our roads, particularly motorways. This time your luck was in LEARN FROM IT.

also don't middle lane/outside lane hog because if they aren't inconvinienced they are less likly to give you a tug.
