peugeot 406 cutting out

my 406 is cutting out from time to time when i pull up to junctions etc even after its been running for half an hour or so any ideas what it could be

my girlfriend had the same problem with her car. check the oil. there was none in her engine thats why it kept cutting out at junctions.
hope it works!
