I'm clueless need advice! which cd player for astra?

I want to buy a cd player/radio for my dads birthday. He has a vauxhall astra its around 5 yrs old (ish). Found a few I like but would any stereo fit or do I need to get a special one from vauxhall? Don't want to buy one then find out he cant use it.

Depends on the car. Some now have specific radios fitted. If the radio in his car looks standard, it will be, the different ones are usually very different.
You may need to buy a wiring loom converter also, but you won't know until you try to fit the new stereo. These are easily avaiulable from any motor factors store and cost no more than �10.
The correct single CD/radio for the Astra is the CAR500/CDR500 its in short supply due to it not being used anymore in the current models.

It is easy to fit any other CD to the car itself, as once the factory set+cage is removed standard ISO wiring blocks are revealed.

Only downside is that when using a non standard CD the centre console display where the radio stations usually appears goes blank then the new radio is turned on, and you will need a wiring adapter if the car is fitted with stereo controls on the steering wheel to be able to use them.
