Looking for car insurance today, Im miffed to say the least to find out that your premium seems to go up if you are single or divorced. Does anyone on this site know why this part of society is penalised and why please? Thanking you in advance
it does make a difference. but in not sure why?. i got married last month and whe me and my now wife, informed the insurance company of her name change they sent us a cheque back for 27.38p. for the remaining 4 months of the policy.
im not complaining, but i dont think our car is any less likely to be stolen now, is it??? or have i suddenly become a safer driver now i have a ring on my finger???
This is just a guess but perhaps they think if you're single or divorce you're more likely to be out in the evening in pubs and clubs etc. rather than tucked up with your spouse in front of the TV.
When I got my quote for my insurance a few years back, I was told (after them having asked if another person in the household held a licence) that it was cheaper for me to have my partner on my insurance than not to have him on. He never drove my car but hell yeah I put his name down. My friend did the same, has since split with her boyfriend and asked for a quote on her renewel with and without and the 'with' still came up cheaper, she just kept him on there.
