Just in case any other ABers didnt know, i have just received a letter from a debt collecting agency on behalf of the dvla!! for 80.
Reason: bought a car Feb 05 parked it on a friends drive as i went to live in Spain,(therefore it has never been on the road all that time) came back in August (just gone,) taxed it insured it etc... and apparently i have been fined because i didnt inform the DVLA that i wouldnt be driving the car during that time therefore would not be road taxing it!! i have asked all my friends and none aof them were aware that you have to inform the dvla of this??
according to them it came to fruition in july '04? seems a bit unfair cos i wasnt even living here, never mind driving the car? paid up grudgingly tho, but have been told to appeal (huh fat chance of me getting that back)
Ah well : /

if you dont tax your car for a period of time, then the car must be on a SORN,(STATUTORY OFF ROAD NOTICE),they have publicised it enough on tv and in the press,so you only have yourself to blame.
whenever you get a form through to tax your vehicle there is the option for SORN.
Unless youve never had a car before this I cant see how you could possibly miss it
sorry curly but doubt the dvla will let you off of this one. Perhaps if you had declared it sorn before you went and it had elapsed as you were unable to contact them due to being out of the country

well ive just spoken to the dvla and THEY told me it was july o4!??? maybe he doesnt know what hes talking about : /
curly, the DVLA rarely know what they are talking about. It took 3 attempts to get a car registered recently even though we had sent all documents by recorded post each time lol
he he curlyperm's a boy!!!!!!!! xxx

(That reminded me of what you thought initially about me - pmsl!!)

Do you think Norman had a pointy stick like teachers use when he told you off?

:o)
i was not giving you a lecture curlywurly, but i find it amazing that you, along with all your friends did not know a thing about a sorn.it was very extensivly advertised on the tv.
chin up curly....
this is Britain. you should be used to getting ripped off.

we are after all, the poorest of the rich countries, as far as our kids are concerned...

look on the bright side, some needy government department will have a great xmas party thanks to you !!!!!
:-)
Sorry sir do we all get detention now :o)

athley go stand in the corner and face the wall, whilst me and funkymoped get ready for the x mas party that I (and many like me) are bloody paying for!
ps think norman was my old maths teacher, and i was crap at maths too hee hee hee
Question Author
norman i know you keep saying it was advertised on tv but i shall continue to keep saying i was LIVING IN SPAIN! : )
you were not living in spain when you parked it on your friends drive
Question Author
??? er..moved to Spain August 2004.......came back breifly thought i was staying........bought a car feb 05, had to go back to spain.........parked 'said' car lived in spain, came back aug 2006. M'lud
I know it won't make any difference to some people going on about this but when you buy a car you get a registration document from the DVLA (assuming all your friends told you to apply for one). When this arrives the envelope contains information about SORN.

Can I put it another way. In July I am going to New Zealand for 5 weeks. Should I bother getting insurance, or taking my passport or my driving license? Nobody had told me I should.

ok right lets wrap this up, otherwise none of us are ever gonna get to bed!
wish i'd never opened my trap, forgot about the 'holier than thou' brigade, didnt come on here for a fri**in lecture, i genuinely thought this was something new, and thought i'd BE KIND and let other people know too!!! D'ya think if i knew years ago i would make myself look a t**t by coming on here and announcing it??? what would be the point in that?
So now i know why no-one comes into this topic, boring old farts the lotta ya..................jeeez...try to give a little bit of advice and all the knives are out!............motoring? huh youre welcome to it!
I'm not ready for bed yet - you're going up early tonight curly!!!

I never come on here (well apart from when you're on here!!!) I can't even put petrol in my car.
