i doubt it very much, manufacturers do test all their engines for very long times, just running and running them, but metal does wear out in time and until they find another way,a engine will evetually stop running,we have a old mercedes in our fleet at work that has done 400.000 miles, but we have needed to rebuild it twice.

Hackney Cabs go on for donkeys i think
hi
no hackney cabs were for horses :)
they are donkeys.
london taxi cabs do go on forever, but they have a engine change, every now and again.
Most of the wear takes place just after the engine is started from cold. So vehicles like taxis and police cars will go on much longer because they rarely cool down.
years ago there was a rumour that the motor industry had developed a ceramic engine that would last forever, or at least a very long time.never put into production though, i wonder why?
The fossil fuels that are used to make petrol/diesel would probably run out first !!!
I have a Citroen with an XUD diesel engine, which is now on 240,000 miles. It's done this on regular oil and filter changes and no engine work at all, other than reconning the injectors at 180,000 miles when it started to get a bit marginal on the smoke test.

These engines are known to be good for 400,000 miles before needing overhaul, provided the oil is changed regularly. I would expect to find a bit of bore ovality in mine by now but nothing to warrant a strip down for a long time to come yet, but nothing lasts forever!!!
