Hi
The front springs on my 1.8 TDci Focus failed recently and I changed them myself - I am an experienced technician. I then reported the problem to Ford who have now refused to consider a claim since I fitted non Ford parts - is this legal?
Thank you in advance

I can see that you have compromised the warranty on the car by using parts from another source but the faulty front springs should still be covered. No doubt this would have been covered had the work been carried out by an approved garage
Seems to be a common problem.
Both my front springs had broken. (1998 Escort TDi)
I was told this was a frequent occurrence.
I fitted new ones myself - I ordered them from the garage doing my MOT. I think they came to about 70 for the pair.
Saved myself about 60 labour charges.
Ford are aware of the problem and should really offer you the price of 2 replacement Ford springs. The springs you fitted have nothing to do with the failure of the originals but most companies will do all they can to avoid paying claims
ford have been aware of the problem of cr ap front springs for 10 years as the problems started with the first mondeos in 1992 k plates but didnt rectify the problem with heavier duty springs until 1996 p plates. then the problem started again with the mark 4 fiesta and ford ka, which to this day hasnt been rectified as these cars are still failing mots for broken front springs. seems to be a ford problem with most of their range.
Go to the top, Ford UK, don't bother with the underlings who's job it is to turn you down.
WHICH magazine have an article on this in this months mag.you don't have to use ford items only ones of equal or better quality. the garages are loathe to let people know this 'cos they want you to keep using their over priced spares and servicing!! also you only need to use a garage with a vat number.
unfortunatly this is a subscription/members site so you'll have to find a mate who has which or sign up yourselves. sorry.
