Hi,

I have a Renault, another French car.

If this happens with mine the only way it can be reset is by A Renault dealer, quite costly.

It might be easy on yours but the garage who caused it to revert to metric should put it right or you could get it done under the manufacturers warranty.
ive never had to remove a battery to changer an oil filter!!! is the engine a 1.4, 1.6 or 2.0 hdi?? if so then the oil filter is at the front of the engine block so nowhere near the battery!! if its the mechanic taking the battery out for another reason then they should have reset it before giving the car back to you. take it back to them.
Assuming it's similar to the 206 - hold the left button for about 5 seconds and it should start off with asking what language you want it to display in. Use the other button to change it.
