Buying a camp wagon in Aus and New Zealand

How easy or otherwise is it to buy a van to live in for a year or so traveling Oz and also NZ (not the same one obviously) the problem I forsee is registering and insuring it with no permanent address in either country. Have you done it? Any advice please?
