Driving Without Due Care And Attention
hello, ok i was in a local car park with a few of my mates last night, a few of them were racing about etc and i ( very stupidly i may add ) went and started doing a handbrake turn, god knows why. And i get out the car and there lies a police astra, he asked me to get into the back of the car. I was very polite, yes sir no sir etc and he charged me with driving without due care and attention, also said i will have to go to court and he will testify against me. The area i did it has cameras which he said he could use as eveidance but i did admit to doing it,
i no i was in the wrong,
i am 18 and only passed my test 6 months ago so i dont want 6 points,
what sort of points or fine etc would i get???
thanks

In deciding upon how many points or a disqualification the magistrates will have to consider the degree of carelessness, the risk to others and so on. This offence seems to be deliberate bad driving (as opposed to a momentary lapse) and the Bench may well decide that more points than the minimum are warranted.
I expect you know that if you incur six or more penalty points within two years of passing your test then your full licence is revoked, and your test (both parts) must be taken again. This does not apply if you are disqualified instead of having points added.
A guilty plea will reduce your fine (but not the points) by about a third. It will also mean that any evidence (such as the CCTV) will not be not shown to the Bench.

it seems unfair that you are being charged when you were probably driving in a safe area at night. it's true that you were probably breaking the law but in this case the police could have given you a quick warning.
you were probably an easy target for a lazy copper who should have been elsewhere stopping real crime!
