how long do you get after an mot is due to renew without incurring fines etc.thanks

you dont. once the mot has expired its illegal to be on the road.
On the date the MOT expires you can only use your car to take to the test station. If you get stopped you have to advise this to the police, would be wise not use car if the MOT expires and you are not taking to test station as you will get fined and points on your licence.
can only usecar to go for another mot test, and that has to be booked in at a test centre. Use it any other time, it invalidates your insurance!!
A fine, but no points, Lindy.

No MoT is not an offence which carries an endorsement or penalty points.
And no automatic fine, just if you get caught out.
There is no "grace" on an M. O. T., but it can be done up to a month before it expires.
