The cd and clock display on the dashboard seemed to have faded in my corsa sxi (53). How would this be fixed?

Yeah, only the right hand side of the clock display has faded (where the temperature display is).
two small bulbs behind dash to illuminate dials, one may have blown. it is quite common for these bulbs to have a loose connection, try giving the top of the instrument cluster a couple of sharp taps with the palm of your hand to see if it comes back on.
I don't think it has to do with the console bulbs which indeed light the the main console dials.
The clk and temp display are in a seperate unit, at least in my corsa b (95). I have the same problem. I used to have it also with the clk display but it was gone after hitting a hole in the road. I'm thinking about taking it out and check the connections.
Taking my words back.
There are 2 bulbs in the rear side of the clk unit, while off, both might be replaced.
Sorry...
