i've had the engine replaced in my ford mondeo, it was a 51 reg engine with 112,000 miles on the clock and i had a 2006 engine with 16.000 miles on it put in.

Do i have to get the mileage changed to the new mileage or just leave everything as it is

Just leave it, no problem.
but wouldn't it reflect that the engine/vehicle has done more mileage than it has actually done? should Dan need to sell this vehicle, wouldn't it be to his disadvantage then?
As Toureman said you don't change mileage due to an engine swap. Otherwise you would have the new owner think other vital parts of the car (suspension, joints etc) were safe and newish although they could have done 100s of thousands.

If selling the car you just point out the act of the engine swap, keeping receipts.
thanks for answering my question, furrycheeky.

not 100% sure, but some ecu store actual mileage car has covered.so when you replace speedo head, mileage will read correct.
