Suspension spring ?

Drove over speed bump other day and heard a metal clunk noise and something from underneath car fell onto road - picked it up and looks like a metal spring/coil has snapped off - car ok still to drive but obviously needs repairing - may be a silly question but how much is it likely to cost - too many people in this world prepared to rip you off.

hi lindy.what type of car do you have.speaking from personel experience last year a new front suspension spring for a ford mondeo (petrol 2001 ) was �30 and i payed �30 to have it fitted by a mobile mechanic.

bear in mind it is recommended that springs are replaced in pairs, so if you have broke one front one you should really replace both front front ones.

I have a corsa comfort 6 years old - I think its a back one not sure though.

My wife has a Pug 307 4yrs old same happened to the rear OFF/S contacted Pug UK. I said the car had only done 33000 They are paying for the 2 rear springs I did not ask for Labour costs as I done the job myself, I dont expect you to do your own Lindy66 but contact Vauxhall give them all your cars details say your mileage and ask for a Gratuas payment. Its worth the effort. Also explain to them that you will take the car to your local Vaux dealers for them to check.

Thanks TWR I have booked car in at vauxhall garage see what the damage is in take it from there and contact vauxhall from there.
DAVID - re your comment not at all. I did not ask for anyones view, about people being ripped off each to their own as such,but my question/this site is for assistance/advice/help etc, your comment is not true nor really related to this site is it.

Just an update been on hols, because I was late getting to vauxhall garage they cancelled my appt (altho I phoned them to said was running late)! So not happy there. Anyway friend recommended a nearby garage they quoted me GBP 85 all in for spring/coil and labour charge - said I should really get both done but not essential. I have the old part where it snapped and i will be contacting vauxhall to complain as the car is only 6 yrs old and shouldnt have snapped the way it did. Apparantly these springs are tested to an extent that they shouldnt break that easily.
In a way pleased vauxhall dealer said I was to late to get car sorted out - reckon they would have charged me a fortune!
